Day 2 (14 August): Condition of the Heart II

Morning Meditation: Psalm 99

Passage: Ezekiel 14:1-8

This is a continuation from Day 1 on the need to repent from the idols that resides in our heart.

God wants us to deal further with idols in our hearts. Idols are not necessarily what we make with our hands but what we make with our hearts and worship. Idols are what rob us of our devotion to God.

They may be in the form of - money, possessions, position (status), work, career, spouse, children, hobbies, pleasure.

These idols become our primary focus instead of God. They can therefore become stumbling blocks in our faith.

Pr. Daniel shared that for himself, the idol for his heart could be the Dream Centre (DC). He said he has been dreaming dreams about Dream Centre since many years ago, and even now at the completion of the DC, he is thinking about Phase 2.

He stressed that we should not be consumed with the place but with the Person. Not with the gift but with the Giver Himself!

To guard our heart, we need to be:

1) Grateful/ thankful - to the things He has given.

2) Gracious – be willing to share with others.

3) Godly - our whole focus is upon God, and no upon man/place/things.

Point of Reflection:

What are the idols that have kept you preoccupied from having a meaningful relationship with God? Who/What hinders you from being preoccupied with God?

Confess it to God.
